This course aims to provide an evidence-based approach to
the management of the breathless patient. Assessment skills will be linked to
the relevant physiology so participants understand the medical management of the
breathless patient with effective teamwork.
The management of patients with COPD, asthma, restrictive
lung disease, heart failure, neurological disease and malignancy - in hospital,
community and hospice settings will be discussed. Information on the
constituents of a pulmonary rehabilitation programme will provided in
conjunction with a supportive current literature. These learning activities and
problem solving skills will be supported by videos, a patient demonstration and
case studies.
