Summary

'A fantastic course, well organised and supported with an emphasis on practical application throughout.' (See below for more participant feedback).

The use of flexible tape has been known for a number of years now, and has  become more popular over the past few years. Flexible tape has unique properties unlike conventional tape and its uses include application to affect muscle, fascia, ligamentous tissue, the lymphatic system, neural patterning and myofascial release/trigger pointing.

Kinesiology taping beginning with the history of flexible taping and an introduction to the concept and technique. The effects, benefits and limitations are covered, and assessment and treatment is discussed to give participants a solid basis of theory and practice of the technique.

The basic course looks at the application of flexible tape to several muscles in the upper limb, the trunk, and the lower limb, including motor patterning correction and joint deformities, tendinopathies and fascial release. Application of the lymph technique is also discussed.

The day consists of both theory and practical sessions with some time for discussion.

Content

This course allows students to learn the method and concepts of kinesiology taping and basic practical skills of screening and application to start to apply it to any clinical scenario. This course is a comprehensive practical training course, designed to show how the kinesiology taping method is used alongside other therapeutic interventions especially physiotherapy, osteopathy and sports therapy.

Besides profound theory and presentation of scientific studies the course includes integrative and systemic therapy concepts from manual therapy, ostepathy and functional rehab training in combination with the tape.

The tape is then combined with the revolutionary Anatomy Trains concept with many fascia techniques to regulate fascia and muscle tension. For the best results and immediate objective marker changes the courses include many clinical and practical tests to demonstrate the immediate effects of tape application. The applications come not in a set pattern. Due to the specific dysfunctions of the patient the screening and the applications become as individual as possible to get optimum results. Finally, the combination of fascia techniques, osteopathic concepts and anatomy trains concepts make the difference to your clinical practice.

The kineoplogy taping basic course covers several areas:

  • History of flexible taping
  • Introduction to flexible taping
  • Effects, benefits & limitations
  • Field of application
  • Properties of the material
  • Fundamental differences to conventional tape
  • General indications
  • 4 pillar principle
  • Principles of applying & removing tape
  • Taping techniques
  • Fascia technique
  • Muscle technique
  • Liogament technique
  • Lymph technique
  • Functional correction of joints
  • Mechanical correction of joints
  • Motor patterning
  • Pain relief
  • Trigger points
  • Cross Patch technique
  • Myofascial release

The basic course covers three main anatomical areas; the upper limb, the trunk and the lower limb.

Course preparation

There is no specified pre course reading.

Restrictions

All eligible participants, as listed in the audience section, must have appropriate UK professional liability insurance to cover them for the techniques to be taught, as detailed in the summary / content section. To ensure eligibility to attend, we reserve the right to ask for proof of this.

Participant feedback

  • 'The Course was both informative and fun. It allowed ample time to practice the techniques and to understand the underlying theoretical principles. I treat a broad cross-section of sports related conditions and I have already initialised some of the techniques with encouraging results.'

  • 'The techniques have been successful in the management of all athletes with the dynamic nature enhancing sporting performance without restriction or distraction. This has become a universally accepted modality in injury management within Elite Performance Sport.'

  • 'I thoroughly enjoyed the course both the practical and theory. I think it will be a useful addition to what we already provide players and help in the ongoing treatment, rehabilitation and management of all our players. Thanks for a great two days.'
