Summary

'Andrea is a fantastic tutor…very approachable and experienced therapist.'

These workshops are an ideal and convenient opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skill in neurodynamic assessment and treatment. They are aimed at students, new graduates and Band 5 therapists.

The evenings are structured to revise relevant applied anatomy, using a problem solving approach, to facilitate clear clinical thought in assessing and treating the lower quadrant with neurodynamic techniques. Relevant case studies will be used to contextualise and consolidate the material into immediately applicable clinical skills. Time will be available through out for questions.

These techniques are dealt with in varying depths at universities and in early clinical practice which can allow for gaps in knowledge and skill. These evenings present a supportive environment to answer existing questions and to consolidate and expand participants repertoire of skill in this area.

The course is limited to a maximum of 24 participants and will involve both short lectures, practicals and problem solving sessions.

Content

The evenings will revise the pathways and palpation of relevant nerves in lower limb testing. The first week will deal entirely with underpinning anatomy and assessment. This will be consolidated using a case study which is carried through to the second week which covers the selection, application and dosing of treatment using neurodynamic techniques. Basic treatment techniques will then be combined to consider treatment of neural interfaces and techniques in functional positions.

Week 1:

Definition of neurodynamics
Historical perspective
Neurophysiology of neurodynamics
Nerve Dysfunction - definition and presentation
Anatomy and pathways of sciatic, femoral, tibial, common peroneal and sural nerves
Indications for neuro dynamic assessment
Contraindications
Principles of testing
Slump, PKB and SLR with sensitisers

Week 2:

Neural interfaces
Injury and healing of nerves
Interpretation of test findings
Principles of treatment using neurodynamic techniques
Treatment planning and application using neurodynamic techniques

Restrictions

All eligible participants, as listed in the audience section, must have appropriate UK professional liability insurance to cover them for the techniques to be taught, as detailed in the summary / content section. To ensure eligibility to attend, we reserve the right to ask for proof of this.

For any participant that is or maybe pregnant when attending any of our courses with a practical component we advise they email us to let us know.

Audience

The evenings are aimed at new graduates, those returning to work and Band 5 physiotherapists. In addition, sports therapists, sports rehabilitators, osteopaths and chiropractors wanting a revision will gain benefit. Please see the restrictions above.
