Travel advice
The following is general advice which might help you when planning your travel. We strongly advise checking if there are any engineering works if coming by train, especially at weekends. If you have any other sites that would be useful for other participants please let us know via our Contact Us link at the top of any page.
We are build links with a company called Goldern Conceierge who are a company that assist in the booking of transport and accommodation needs. You can download further information by clicking here.
Travelling by Car
This is a site which allows you to check the state of the traffic on the roads you will be travelling on just before you leave. Handy for those without a sat nav which gives live traffic reports.
Public Transport
This is an excellent UK travel planner for buses, trains, flights, car parks and travel info. Simply fantastic !!
Rail
Useful websites are:
Gives train times and suggested routes between any two stations within the UK. It also details planned engineering works, we strongly advise checking this before you travel.
Allows you to book train tickets. Please ALWAYS look at the price of two singles compared with a return journey as it may be cheaper.
This is a general travel site recommended to us by a few people and is good for national and European train travel to the UK.
Please see your map for local stations to the venue. If you are booking return train journeys, the Train Line usually offer a full refund less a £10 cancellation fee for return journeys, if you need to change your journey or plans for any reason. When searching for journey options always check the price of 2 single journeys as often these are cheaper than a return (!). Also check travelling from different stations as this can change prices significantly.
London Underground
We highly recommend you check the Transport for London site for planned engineering works on the Underground (or The Tube as it is commonly known). Please look specifically at the line you are planning to travel on. They usually list planned works at least 6 months in advance.
Air Travel
www.low-cost-airline-guide.com
This site will search a number of budget airlines and tell you, who flies from and to the airports you are interested in. This saves you searching each different website, please note it does not search Easy Jet or British Airways which are always worth checking.
The British Airways site allows you to view ticket prices and prices include all taxes and charges, there are no hidden extras, unlike other sites.
The Easy Jet site does include extra charges so make sure you go through and read each section clearly to work out the final price of your ticket. Watch out for unnecessary inclusions!
This searches a number of airlines and gives you lots of flexibility in changing your search criteria.
